Utøya

The island Utøya is owned by  the Labor Party's youth organization AUF (Arbeidernes ungdomfylking), which holds its traditional summer camp there in July every year, in addition to a number of other courses and gatherings. The island has six buildings that are used for courses and conferences: the Main House, the Square, the School Room, the Barn and the Stabburet as well as the learning and communication center Hegnhuset, in addition to seven cabins and an open-air stage. Utøya has been used as a holiday colony, course venue and summer camps since the 1930s.The mass murder on Utøya was the second of two terrorist attacks that hit Norway on 22 July 2011. Both terrorist acts were carried out by Anders Behring Breivik.

On Utøya, Breivik carried out a massacre that claimed 69 lives. 33 people suffered life-threatening or serious physical harm. Several hundred young people were in acute danger and were exposed to an enormous psychological burden.

The vast majority of those affected were young people belonging to the Labor Party's youth organization AUF.

Utøya has been resurrected after the massacre and today it contains several memorials to the event.
